CloseFollowers of Christ are born again by grace through faith, apart from works (Ephesians 2:8, 9). There is nothing we can do to earn salvation, and we certainly don’t deserve it because of our falsely perceived innate goodness. Salvation is through faith in Jesus Christ and Jesus Christ alone! Yet, works play a vital role in our salvation. Works don’t make us right with God, but they prove we are right with Him. James’ readers had fallen for the ancient philosophy/theology called antinomianism (this belief taught that if you are truly right with God, then your actions don’t really matter). He wrote to correct their doctrinal mistake and explain to them that works are important because they prove or disprove a real faith. In short, a lack of works born out of faith proves that faith is dead.
